Members of the Hashtag Heroes bought toys such as dolls, toy cars, games and other gifts for needy children so they can enjoy Christmas by having some newly bought presents. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, which spearheads the Toys for Tots program, gathered toys from many individuals, businesses and organizations in Houston, including the Hashtag Heroes, and distributed the gifts to less fortunate children at the George R. Brown Convention Center on December 14.  Families came in and chose either three toys or a bicycle. These were low-income families or were families that experienced a recent tragedy in their lives.

“We love to give back to the community and children in need,” said Josh Walters, an Fair Marketing F.A.I.R. Strategist. “Donating these toys accomplishes both of these goals, and we are doing it at Christmas time when it counts the most!”

Recently, Hashtag Heroes members gathered the toys they planned to donate and handed them over to the U.S. Marine Corps for distribution. Lance Corporal Thurman Puckett was on hand for the donation ceremony.

“We want these families to have a good Christmas,” Puckett said. “There is a lot of bad going on in the world. Donating toys shows good humility in people and hopefully this will change the outlook on the world for these families in a positive way.”

The Hashtag Heroes is a charitable organization founded by fairmarketing. They use their social media and web marketing skills to become active within the community and help those in need. By creating profile pages on major social outlets such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, Hashtag Heroes can attract followers who are then labeled as “heroes.” Every week, charitable organizations send Fair Marketing a “wish list” of needs for individual families within the Houston area. After selecting one or two of the families, the “heroes” are notified and then they respond by meeting the need.
